Chilopods or centipedes

Why do I have centipedes in my house?

The continued presence of woodlice or centipedes indoors may indicate a serious moisture problem or the existence of a food source, such as rotting wood.

Chilopods or centipedes (Chilopoda) are une class d'arthropods myriapods  commonly referred to as “ centipede ” (just like the diplopods). Each of the many chilopod segments bears a pair of legs except the first whose pair of appendages is transformed into a pair of hooks à venom  called “ forcipules ” (from the Latin forceps, “ pliers ”). This unique feature among myriapods defines their class. The bite of larger species is painful for an adult man, and can sometimes be very dangerous for a child.

Centipedes are predators of other arthropods or de towards. They are all terrestrial but need a medium wet because their cuticle  does not have a layer of wax  allowing them to resist dehydration. These are cash lucifuges light). These species have a more or less elongated body, most often dorso-ventrally flattened, divided into 3 parts (head, trunk and telson), measuring from 2 to 5 centimeters in length. They have a yellow or brown color which can be nuanced with green or red. The trunk is composed of at least 16 segments  generally carrying a pair of ambulatory legs, which distinguishes them from diplopods. The prior pair turned into brackets at venom (maxillipeds  called legs-jaws or forcipules, corresponding to des appendages multiarticulated) and are used to kill their prey  (small invertebrates, even vertebrates for centipedes) that they detect thanks to their multi-articulated tactile and olfactory antennae (whose number of articles is variable, on average 20)1. Ces invertebrates lucifuges  are usually nocturnal  and have varied lifestyles.
